Rey

Halloween 2016

I’m pretty sure I had more fun with the Rey costume than my daughter did. The Force Awakens had come out the previous December, and there was pretty much no question what was happening that Halloween. I got way into the details.

Staff: Curtain rod, spray painted and wrapped in gauze and burlap with a strap I took from the bag I put on her belt.

Goggles: Lenses from a cheap pair of sunglasses, wrapped in microsuede-covered vinyl (from an old diaper changing pad. Hey, I don’t just have a lot of vinyl lying around, you know?). I also attached a tiny mag-lite to the left side so she’d have Rey’s working flashlight if she needed it.

Arm wraps and drape: Dyed crepe.

Belt: Belt webbing sewn together on the left and clipped together under the bag on the right.

Undershirt: Plain white t-shirt with collar and sleeves cut off.

The boots and pants made a reappearance the following Halloween for the Emily costume.

Her candy pumpkin was, inevitably, painted as BB-8, and naturally our jack o’lantern that year followed the theme as well.

She kept the desert headgear on because it was cold and rainy, more like Endor than Jakku.
