Star Wars

These creations are all shown in their own respective sections of the site, but I thought they needed to live together on one page as well - because Star Wars.

BD-1

The very first time I played Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, I fell head over heels for this droid and decided I must have one. So I made him.

Star Wars is known for its used-universe aesthetic, which is why wherever possible, I used parts I had around the house. I’ve taken apart a few dead computers over the years and have amassed enough miscellaneous hardware and other bits to end up with quite a lot to choose from.

This model came unassembled and unpainted, and was designed to be glued together to sit on a desk. I wanted the end product to have a weathered paint job, articulated joints and sound. Here’s how I customized him.

DROIDS

BD-1’s got friends: I custom-painted Chopper (from Star Wars Rebels) and LO-LA59 (from Kenobi), and built and painted BD-1 (from the game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order).

Chopper was just a matter of adding accurate colors and weathering. LO-LA59 was painted to match the main outfit that little Princess Leia wears in Kenobi.

BABY YODA

Winner, Needle Felted Work Category, 2020 Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival Fiber Arts Contest.

In 2020, if you know me, you knew there was no way I was going to do anything but Baby Yoda, from the TV series The Mandalorian. Check him out on his own page.

BB-8 AND PORG ON AHCH-TO

My little scene of BB-8 startling a Porg won first place in the needle felted work category at the 2018 Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival. I felted all six of BB-8’s equipment panels. It was a bit tricky, as BB-8’s body is only about 3” wide, but it sure was fun. Find them on my Needle Felting page.

They also had their screen debut in the title sequence to the documentary series Looking for Leia.

CONVOR

I created a convor (a kind of owl-beastie) for my daughter, who perches in her room when she’s not off being a good omen to galactic heroes. (The convor, not my daughter. Although really, who can say.) Find her on my Needle Felting page.

ART OF THE ARTIST

My daughter really loves the character Sabine Wren from the TV series Star Wars Rebels. I covered a box with symbols from Sabine’s Mandalorian armor: the helmet on top, her shoulder armor on the sides, and the rebel symbol on the front. (And the white loth-cat, because it absolutely had to be there.) It was especially fun, given that Sabine is the artist of the crew and painted all of her armor herself.

REY: HALLOWEEN 2016

I’m pretty sure I had more fun with the Rey costume than my daughter did. The Force Awakens had come out the previous December, and there was pretty much no question what was happening that Halloween. I got way into the details.

There are lots more details and photos, including the BB-8 candy bucket and jack o’lantern, on my Rey page.

ENDOR LEIA: HALLOWEEN 2015

Leia is a badass, and she always has cool gear.

Most of this costume was ready-to-wear with modifications (I bought the components separately and then tweaked them to match the costume. I made the belt pouches, insignia and forest poncho from scratch.

There are more details and photos on my Endor Leia page.

“MY PATRONUS IS A LOTH-CAT”

I made this shirt for myself to wear to Boston Comic-Con 2019 and someone on Twitter asked if she could buy it, so I put it up on TeePublic. Now everyone can have Loth-Cat-themed shirts, mugs, phone cases, tote bags and wall art - and annoy the Harry Potter fans at the same time.

Eagle-eyed Star Wars fans will notice that the ink is exactly the same blue as the “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. . . .” text at the beginning of Episodes 1-9 in the Skywalker Saga.

(You get extra points if you heard John Williams’ opening theme when you read that.)
