Boston Comic-Con 2019 cosplay. The 2018 Netflix series stars a snarky, confident heroine with a cadre of funny, flawed friends and a campy costume that was fun to make.

Halloween 2018 costume. I got to make a broom, uniform and protective gear from scratch, and only burned myself with hot glue like a dozen times.

Boston Comic-Con 2018 cosplay. How can you not love Shuri? She may be the smartest, funniest Disney princess yet and she definitely has the coolest tech (sorry, Leia). There was no question what that year’s cosplay was going to be.

Halloween 2017 costume. Emily is the main character from the Amulet book series by Kazu Kibuishi. She’s an epic hero with an incredible story.

Boston Comic-Con 2017 cosplay. One of my daughter’s heroes is Kamala Khan, a teenager from Jersey City who unwittingly becomes the superhero Ms. Marvel. She’s real, she’s funny, and she’s awesome.

Halloween 2016 costume. I’m pretty sure I had more fun with this one than my daughter did. The Force Awakens had come out the previous December, and there was pretty much no question what was happening that Halloween. I got way into the details.

Halloween 2015 costume. Leia is a badass, and she always has cool gear.

Halloween 2013 costume. I’m pretty proud that in a year when everyone else was Elsa, my daughter wanted to be Merida.
