Thetford Neighborhood News 2014-present
The print and online Neighborhood News fills the local news gap for those who don’t have access to regular posts on the town listserv, and highlights important announcements by local organizations, schools, libraries, town offices and residents. It is posted monthly in approximately two dozen locations around town and is written by Thetford residents.
WEB DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST
DARTMOUTH COLLEGE 2018
The Office of Visa and Immigration Services hired me to analyze their existing website, propose a new IA, edit their existing content, and provide guidelines for their site going forward.
As the migration producer for Dartmouth College, I brought older academic and administrative sites into Dartmouth’s new Drupal platform. My team and I analyzed a site’s metrics and content, proposed changes to improve the site’s user experience, created a new site, edited the content based on the target audience, and ran extensive technical and grammatical QA on all content.
SOCIAL MEDIA SPECIALIST
I handled social media for the Dartmouth-Hitchcock health system, managing external communities such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube, formulating strategy, and educating employees. I helped launch Dartmouth-Hitchcock's social media presence, and was its first Social Media Specialist.
I started a column called "The Feed" on our internal news site, focusing on how the merging of social media and health care affects employees, patients and caretakers alike. The articles were consistently among the most popular stories on the site.
WEB CONTENT PRODUCER
DARTMOUTH HITCHCOCK 2006-2012
For six years, I migrated, wrote and edited content for Dartmouth-Hitchcock's employee and patient websites, consulted with stakeholders and helped them see projects through to completion, assisted in the conception and creation of new sites, and worked closely with clinicians, administrators and peers in the field.
DIRECT MARKETING & ADVERTISING ASSOCIATE
DARTMOUTH COLLEGE 2004-2006
At the University Press of New England, I designed and produced all seasonal catalogues, topical brochures and print advertising. I also oversaw all email marketing for thousands of subscribers, and built databases for the press.
NATIONAL TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION 1999-2001
I wrote for the Department of Communications, pitched stories to local, regional and national news media, worked on annual campaigns such as the 11 Most Endangered Historic Sites list, helped develop early iterations of the Trust's website, and wrote several stories for Preservation (the magazine of the National Trust) and Preservation Online.
THE DENVER POST 1998
Reporting for the Post, I covered breaking news and wrote both short-deadline daily stories and longer features.
ARCADIA PUBLISHING (2015)
My history of Thetford, Vermont was part of Arcadia’s popular Images of America series. It involved months of doing research, writing content and scanning hundreds of photos, then shepherding the manuscript through the publication process.
Bringing the Social Media Revolution to Health Care
Mayo Clinic center for social media (2012)
My essay, Building Relationships on YouTube, examines how I, as a community manager, had a great deal of patient interaction despite my non-clinical role, and stresses the importance of empathy with the patient experience.
